STEAM
St Joseph’s is committed to providing opportunities for students to authentically engage in meaningful, relevant and rigorous STEAM activities. STEAM adds the Arts to the traditional Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) encouraging students to think beyond the function and science to the application of products through the range of arts designed in creating effective solutions.
STEM is one of the fastest growing fields of employment with new jobs and career paths being created all the time. In their report Realizing 2030, Dell Technologies and Institute for the Future have forecasted that 85% of the jobs people will be doing in 2030 haven’t been invented yet. Through STEAM education, St Joseph’s aims to prepare your child for a life of learning and give them the skills to adapt to a changing workplace and be a part of the creation of the jobs of tomorrow.
The STEM Teacher Enrichment Academy
In partnership with The University of Sydney teachers have undertaken professional learning to build our capacity to deliver in this crucial area of education and provide our students with a wide variety of opportunities to engage with and shape the world around them.
In 2019 students have engaged with professionals within the community to build a chicken coop and a sensory garden. This has also been a part of our program with the STEM Academy and we will be presenting our results at a conference of local schools. Students are also being provided with opportunities to engage with technologies such as robotics, virtual reality and coding.
